I have the honor of teaching 22 amazing 3rd grade students in San Francisco. My students come from diverse backgrounds, speak many different languages, and all have a love for learning! Along with this amazing diversity in students is a diversity in academic levels, learning styles, and social-emotional skills. My students amaze me every day with their determination and desire to learn. I work hard to give them the best education that I can to make sure that they are ready to be brilliant people in their communities and the world!
As a school located in San Francisco, a hub for technology, it is hard to watch my students fall behind in digital citizenships. More than 90% of our students receive free/reduced lunch, a poverty indicator, and the majority of students do not have computers in their home.
I am hoping to help my students understand the powerful impact technology can have in the classroom by providing 1:1 computers. I currently have 6 computers in the class classroom which I rotate throughout the week. This means each student gets to use the computer about 1-2 times per week. Getting 16 more computers were ensure that I am able to have each student working on their own laptop. This will allow students to practice typing, access online resources for research, practice math skills, and draft and publish their writing.
