Ciana grew up with a dream to save the environment. As I have come to know and love her, she has shared her vision with me and helped me to realize I too could make a difference.
We were sitting together working on projects and preparing for another semester's finals when we realized we weren't actually on track for where we wanted to end up in life.
Ciana was looking at 3 more years of Civil Engineering classes. CEs learn about structures and buildings and how to develop land. She wanted to be an environmental engineer to study natural processes and how lands can be recovered and life be restored... but that degree was not offered and CE is generally excepted as close enough. Its not. We read through the classes she was set to take and worked out her schedules for the coming years, and I could see in her face she was not excited. Don't get me wrong, she would do it and do it well (4.0 GPA all the way), but it wasn't her dream.
I was nearly finished with my degree and it was ok. It was interesting enough, but the more I learned, the more I realized I was destined for a life behind a desk. Having worked online for the last 9 months, I knew that was not for me. I wanted a job I was passionate about, one that I could immerse myself in and be proud of at the end of the day.
So, we pulled the trigger and made a change. We uprooted, moved to Oregon, and (after gaining residency) will be attending college for Forestry and Environmental Engineering! We are soo excited! We don't have it all figured out yet but are believing this is the right move and taking it one step at a time.
Environmental work has never been profitable, monetarily speaking, but is vital for ensuring a beautiful future for all. Tuition will be expensive, ~$11,715 per year for each of us. We are applying for financial aid and are in the process of getting jobs, but it may not be enough. We are reaching out to you all to ask if you would like to help. Our goal here is to get the first quarter covered for each of us ($11,715 / 4 x 2 = $5,858 + books) so we can start saving for the next :) We are very appreciative to you all for your help (whether it be monetary or your faith and support)... I don't know what more we can say but THANK YOU.
