Lea Carruthers kicking cancers ass

Lea is one of the toughest people I know. As a freshman running at the University of Arkansas, Lea ran as a woman on a mission-day in and day out. Her positive attitude, humor, and can-do stubbornness are traits I remember and still admire to this day! She always had encouraging words for us, her teammates and friends.

Currently, Lea lives and works in Montgomery Texas. Due to her past coaching success, she was chosen to lead the new Lake Creek Cross Country and Track teams and teach Freshman English.

On August 3, 2018, she was diagnosed with Stage 2A Breast Cancer. Her cancer is estrogen and progesterone positive. Her cancer is aggressive and fast moving. She is currently undergoing five months of chemotherapy. She still has surgery, radiation, and hormone therapy until she can fully put her cancer behind her.

I believe with all of my heart that Lea will use the same tenacity she uses to teach and coach to overcome cancer. 

I am running the California International Marathon on Dec 2nd 2018, and I am dedicating this race to Lea. I am making a donation to her recovery fund through this website.

Lea is a woman driven by a passion for two things: seeing the best in others, and really good Mexican food :)
