Baby Chris or “LC” was born with a very rare heart condition 6 months ago. Most parents have to struggle with the joys of a new baby, Sarah and Chris have to struggle with wondering if their child will survive. LC spent his first several months at Children’s in the NICU unit. Although he has been home for two months (complete with feeding tubes and medications), yesterday, at his 6 month appointment, there was more bad news. This is the most recent update from Sarah and Chris: “At 28 weeks gestation, I had my first ever specialty appointment to look at your heart. Our lives changed forever as we sat in a consultation room and they diagnosed you with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. Over the next 11 weeks we had meetings, appointments, clinics, sonograms, tests, more meetings, and more appointment. As busy as we were, nothing truly prepared us for the journey a heart warrior takes. Today, at 28 weeks old, and in the very same consultation room, we were told your heart is not strong enough for your third stage open heart surgery. The bottom half of your right ventricle is not squeezing, your tricuspid and aortic valves are leaking, you’re on stroke watch due to a migrating blood clot, and there’s a new narrowing in your aortic arch. Without seeing a steady improvement in cardiac function over the next 1-2 years, we will have to consider alternative options. No one chooses this life. No one asks to be born with a broken heart. No one beats CHD. So tonight, we pray just a little bit harder that you continue to show us how real miracles are. We pray just a little bit longer that you continue to thrive given your circumstances. We pray just a little bit louder that you are blessed with many more years of life. You are mighty. You are fierce. You are loved. You are everything to me. ”
