Layna
Layna is the daughter of Corey and Alyssa Heisler. She is two years old. On September 2nd,2016 at 8 months old, Layna went into Status epilepticus. SE is defined as a continuous seizure lasting more than 30 min, or two or more seizures without full recovery of consciousness between any of them.
After being taken to the hospital, Layna was diagnosed with Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC) which is a very rare gene mutation that causes vital organs to grow tumors on them. Layna has tumors in her brain resulting in epilepsy, behind her eye, in her heart, on her skin, and in her kidneys. She was also diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney disease. Her kidneys are both the size of an adult male. A double kidney transplant is inevitable for the future.
She is currently taking medication for high blood pressure and seizures. Her seizures happen a few times a day. Her seizures cause her to vomit and then fall asleep. She has even had a few grand mal seizures. Her blood pressure is still uncontrolled, which can cause her to have a stroke.
On October 11th,2017 a tumor was found in Layna’s aorta. She had heart surgery on November 17th ,2017 to remove the tumor. She recovered great, but her blood pressure is still uncontrolled.
The first week of October Layna will be undergoing a five day EEG, to find out if she is a candidate for Nero Surgery.
A recent MRI of her brain found early signs of hydrocephalus which is A build-up of fluid in the cavities deep within the brain. It is being closely monitored with MRIs.
There is no cure for Tuberous Sclerosis Complex. Layna goes to the Children’s hospital in Madison every month for check up appointments. It is a daily battle and struggle for her, but with prayer and positive thoughts, we have made it this far already. Any help financial wise would be greatly appreciated, as medical bills are never ending.
