Law School for Gideon

Hi friends!

I am hoping that for my 30th birthday this year some of you could help me to help a good friend of mine; Gideon Korda. This chap is possibly the happiest, most kind and genuine man that I have ever met. He has some pretty sick dance moves too.

Gideon has unfortunately come into some financial difficulty relating to his studies for the Bachelor of Law degree at Mountcrest University in Accra, Ghana. He has fallen behind in some payments for his studies only to then find that the university has also increased the  fees, adding to his difficulty. He has until the end of May this year to finalise the balance with the university which currently stands at 8500 Ghanaian Cedis (approximately 1200 GBP). He has so far saved approximately 400 GBP himself whilst doing his national service at the judicial service of Ghana. I am determined to sort the remaining balance out with him somehow some way.

I had some financial difficulties myself during my first year of medicine at Liverpool (big thanks to the Student Loan Company; really relieved exam stress). Fortunately I had parents that were in the position to bail me out AND it happened before the first of many exams. I cannot begin to imagine the frustration and anxiety caused by getting through all your studies only to then be told that if you do not pay up; you can't sit final exam or progress and all your studies were wasted.

Gids and I first met way back in 2006 in Ghana, when I was 16 and working on a medical work experience/voluntary scheme with a company called Madventurer.  I cannot remember in the slightest what his actual job role was, quite the all-rounder, but he was the friendliest face, so supportive and brought us over some home made peanut butter. A true friend! He has since come over to stay with my family for Christmas and I fully intend on paying him a visit back in Ghana in the not too distant future.

Anyway - enough from me - here are some words from Gids himself:

"My name is Gideon Korda, a 32 year old man from Ghana. I got admission into a private university called Mountcrest University College in Accra in 2014 to study Bachelor of Laws. The dream is to become a professional lawyer who is very much delighted in advocating against Human Rights Abuse especially the vulnerable in the society; women and children particularly. How ever, I am unable to write my final examination because of non payment of school fees. I'm currently looking out for a source of funding to be able to write my final examination, get certified and proceed to the last training to be able to be called to the bar to begin my career as a Lawyer. Thank you."

We have paperwork inc statements from the university if anyone wishes to see them.  The final payment will go straight into the university bank account.

Gideon is passionate about human rights and  was in the process of setting up his own NGO in Ghana. I know that helping this amazing young man will not only directly benefit him and his family but the community around him. In becoming a lawyer there will no doubt be a lot of good that Gids can do for his country (which by the way is breathtakingly beautiful, I highly recommend a visit!) and will provide the financial support to continue his NGO, in addition to achieving his dream career.
