"Lavi Nan Abondans": A Year in Haiti

Donation protected

"Lavi nan abondans" is Haitian Creole for "life in abundance".  The words strength, joy, and abundance have been following me around lately.  I must admit, I'm frequently discouraged by my own lack of strength, joy, and celebration of this gift of abundant life.  John 10:10 says, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.  I come that they may have life and have it more abundantly."  Jesus wants his family to have what Webster defines as "overfowing fullness" or "an extremely plentiful or oversufficient supply" of life, not just in junk or money or entertainment, but in love for God and relationships with each other.  I feel challenged to claim this purpose for my own life and to strive to grow it in others'.

It is my hope to spend a year (beginning this fall) in Haiti living and working with John and Christi Barnes and their family at House of Moses.  In addition to pulling my weight at HoM and deepening my relationships there, I'll be actively involved in Port-de-Paix and the surrounding community by investing in other mission organizations and families, running clinics at the prison, and visiting area hospitals, orphanages, and homes.  It is also my intention to assist with local nursing school programs, provide individual tutoring, and/or facilitate home study groups for nursing students.

About finances:  I've been working as an RN since June of 2012 and will have my student loans paid in full by August of this year.  I have a little savings, but not enough to cover the cost of this endeavor completely.  Your prayers are truly the most valuable contribution, but if you care to support me financially as well, you may do so online or in person.  I will also be holding a drive for supplies (medications, household items, toiletries, etc. for both personal use and to bless the House, prison, and others) closer to departure if you are interested in helping meet those needs.

**It is also my hope to continue my monthly sponsorships while I am away. Currently, I sponsor the Christian Campus House at my alma mater, the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, at $50/mo.  I also sponsor my friend Miselene Lucas at HoM at $25/mo. Donations for these purposes would be greatly appreciated!**

The longest I've spent in Haiti is two months, so this is going to be a stretch, but I'm so excited to see what's in store! If you have questions for myself or these organizations, don't hesitate to ask.  I'd also be happy to meet with you in person to discuss my plans and catch up on your life, too.  I am planning to visit the U.S. somewhere around the six-month mark, and would love to see you during that time as well!

Thank you for joining me on this journey!
