Those of us who know Laurie and Phil know that they are hard-working, kind, generous, creative, responsible, thoughtful people. Those qualities are part of what will make them incredible parents this May when they give birth to their first child.
Many of us were hoping for policies that would support moms during the first few weeks of postpartum, providing a safety net for maternity leave. Now it's not looking like that is going to happen. My thought: lets start doing this for each other.
As a self-employed person myself, i took only three days off of work when my daughter was born. I can say first hand that it is difficult to make space for the recovery and bonding of maternity leave when the burden of financial security is looming large.
As Laurie is getting closer to this time that many of us have experienced, what a wonderful gift for us to be able to give her this support. And to give their baby a start to life that all children should have.
As you consider donating toward this, please know that your generosity is so so appreciated and that even small amounts make a big difference. I know there is a lot of love in the community for these guys and i'm very excited for this next season of life for them.
How will this fund be used?
All funds raised will ONLY be used for Laurie's maternity leave; to replace her lost income over 4 - 8 weeks. This money will be used toward their family's basic living expenses (food, housing, utilities, fuel, and medical), so that she is able to stay home and not worry for a few weeks.
When do they need these funds by?
Their baby is due May 3, 2017. Since babies often arrive earlier than expected, the goal is set for April 1, 2017.
