Lauren Baker's Heart Surgery

Donation protected
As a coach, I have been blessed to be around thousands of players.  Everyone is unique and special in their own way.  But, every so often you come across a very special one...one that makes you want to learn more about them.  Two years ago, I met Lauren Baker.  I saw something special in this girl! I was drawn to her passion, work ethic and love for the game of softball! She is a strong player.....but now...to me, she is an exceptional person AND player!
She was born legally blind in her left eye! She underwent multiple surgeries before the age of 2.  Her family was told she'd never be able to participate in sports. Then, at age 11 she was brutally mauled by an American Bulldog while swimming.  She nearly drowned during the incident but survived missing part of her nose, lip and ear.  She underwent yet again, numerous surgeries to correct the problems.  Now, at the age of 16  this special girl has been diagnosed with a slow flow vascular malformation on the left side of the brain and an Acute Left Coronary Artery.... The same thing that was related to the deaths of Pistol Pete Maravich, Hank Gathers and many other athletes... It's known as Sudden Cardic Death. She is now preparing for heart surgery at MUSC.   This amazing athlete has never let her disabilities limit her.  She is a shortstop on a Carolina Elite 16u team and received Female Athlete of the Year this year in High School.  Not only was she an All state and conference player in softball but she also achieved the same in basketball this past year.
Lauren touched my life bigger than ever when I read her book God's Girl Living for a Purpose.  The book made me cry, it made me value the simple things I take for granted and most of all, taught me so much....and my coach was a 16 year old softball player.  She is anxious to get back on the field...to continue showcasing her skills to college coaches. But first, she is determined to come out stronger than ever from this costly heart surgery.  The family is in for a rough financial battle thus the reason a few of us decided to reach out and help raise money for them.  Please donate to this special athlete and you can also help by purchasing her book from Barnes and Nobles  or Amazon. She has a website at
