Hey friends! Laura here. As many of you know, I moved from Portland to Los Angeles in April to follow my dream to direct films, specifically music videos. I'm thrilled the time has come for me to hop into the director’s chair for my first project here: a music video for my good friends, SWIMM ! This project is really special to me as I bring together some of my closest friends here to bring this vision to life, but I need your help so that I can take it to the next level.
I’m coming to YOU, my friends, for help in making this possible! I need to raise $4,250 in the next two weeks so we can bring this video to life. The funds will all go toward creating the video, including renting equipment, feeding the crew (they're all donating their time!) and creating the perfect setting to tell this story. Any amount helps make this dream a reality.
THE CONCEPT
Why do we feel the need to prove ourselves or impress the people we love? Does it actually bring us closer to our friends and lovers? Does Chris’ constant co-opting of the SWIMM Instagram account to post pictures and long love letters to the woman of his dreams, Rihanna, ever garner a response from Bad Girl Rih Rih herself?
Smack dab in the middle of a glittery pool party, we follow a group of people trying to connect with each other. At first their attempts at flirtation are normal, but they quickly develop into bizarrely grand gestures.
This party’s got everything: a giant aquarium with mermaids AND mega babes dancing around AND a bunch of cuties making out AND a man who can fit his entire fist into his mouth AND Rihanna herself (if our schedules line up, of course).
Inspired by the videos for Frank Ocean’s “Nikes” and El Guincho’s “Bombay,” SWIMM's video for “Barbra Walters” will be dramatic, high energy, bright, surreal, and breathlessly intimate.
