Eleven years ago, our sweet sister, Laura Touya, bravely battled an extremely aggressive “HER 2 Positive” breast cancer. Unfortunately, this May we discovered that it had returned with a vengeance, metastasizing to her liver, lung, and multiple bones. The standard of care for this cancer is essentially unchanged from her first go around: chemotherapy and a targeted drug called Herceptin, with a new targeted drug, Projeta, entering the fray.
Laura is unable to take the chemotherapy as it nearly killed her years ago, and to make matters worse, she had a horrible reaction to the new targeted drug, so Herceptin is the best medical treatment her doctor has in his arsenal for her.
The good news is that there are many promising integrative therapies available, but only a few are offered in her Montana community, and none of which are covered by insurance. Laura has been consulting with a cancer specialist in California who offers these therapies and would like to hit the cancer with as many of these weapons as possible.
Our sister is the most selfless person we know and has put her family before herself for years. Through several years of financial challenges and family tragedies, she has remained steadfast in her faith in God and service of her family. With her husband working out of state, Laura has bravely fought this cancer while still parenting her youngest child and working as many hours as possible as she shuttles back-and-forth to doctors appointments, treatments, and blood draws.
Today is a first: Laura is asking for help. She desperately needs and wants to pursue these additional integrative therapies at home and in California, but can only do this if she receives financial help. If you feel so led, we would be so incredibly grateful for any support you can contribute. We know that God can and does heal today, and are contending for nothing less than complete healing for Laura; we pray that this bright light has many years ahead of her to shine in this world!
