Laura Breann Williams

Laura has been very sick for a couple of weeks now. What began with a virus has developed into a serious illness called Guillain-Barre Syndrome. She was admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit last Tuesday night after 2 trips to the doctor and a night in the emergency room. This disease causes muscle weakness that begins in the feet and progresses up the body, leading to temporary paralysis of the legs, arms, chest and eventually causes swallowing and breathing problems. They have treated her with medication that has nasty side effects. She has had continuous vomiting and is unable to eat anything. She is going through physical and occupational therapy to help her regain strength so she can walk again. She also has speech therapy to help her swallow appropriately and keep her voice strong.
This sweet girl, who is in her senior year of high school is going through a lot and so is her family. The medical bills will be quite significant, to say the least. She will require in patient therapy to help her recover, once she is ready to transfer. Her parents have been out of work due to her condition and one of them will need to stay with her through rehab as well. Any support is greatly appreciated.

This is Laura on her 1st day of her Sr year. The goal is to get her back there with full function.
