Laughing Back at Bob's Cancer

Donation protected
Humble, hardworking, helpful, and humorous is the best way to describe Bob Denzin.

About Bob (from my perspective):
Thirty-four years ago, Bob and my Mom (Christine) met on a blind date.  Bob said he wasn't getting married or having kids.  Well 4 years later on May 30, 1987 the two were wed and Bob was immediately a step-dad to a pre-teen (EEK!) then on May 3, 1990 Bob and Christine had my brother Zak.   Fast forward a few decades and Bob is a grandfather twice over too.

Bob is always there for anyone.  He has supported Zak and I through school, sports, sickness, and more.   Bob even walked me down the aisle with my Dad (Larry).  I have been blessed with two wonderful fathers and I can't bear to lose another.

Overall, Bob will give the shirt off his back, work until his knees ache, volunteer to help in anyway; the list is endless.

Bob NEVER asks for help as he does not want to burden anyone, so instead I'm asking on his behalf.

On to the not so fun stuff.......

About the cancer:
Bob went to the doctor in September for what he thought was heartburn that wouldn't go away.  (Antacids are a staple for Bob).

A CAT scan found cancer in the lower part of his esophagus and top part of his stomach, the PET scan confirmed  he has stage T3 cancer but it has not spread, and the brain scan still found nothing. (Bob joke)

November 1st, Bob had a port placed in his chest for chemo and got his first tattoos (Bob joke) for radiation treatment.  Bob gets one dose of chemo every Wednesday with radiation Monday through Friday for 28 doses ending around December 8th.

Once all the chemo and radiation is done, Bob needs to wait 6 weeks before he can have surgery.  The surgery will be to remove the tumor and rebuild his esophagus.  The surgery will take place sometime in February at the UW hospital in Madison and Bob will be there for a week.

About the caretaker:
Cancer affects more than just the patient, it affects the family too.  Bob's wife/my Mom, Christine , has been with him through every step of the way.  Christine will also be by his side for the surgery and recovery. She is trying to be strong in front of Bob and trying to stay positive but it does take its toll.  As she has said to me, she doesn't know what she'll do if she loses her Bob.

About the funds:
Ireland is on Bob's bucketlist plus he is half Irish and his mother is from Ireland.  For their 25th anniversary
they were planning on going to Ireland but it was put off.  The plan was then to go for their 30th anniversary (this year) and that was put off too.  With your help, I'd like to give them a vacation they both deserve.

THANK YOU!
