LaTavian's Heart Fund

Meet La'Tavian M. Tylor, our beautiful 7 year old baby boy currently fighting for his life. Since the day he was born Tav has been a little angel in everyones world and if you ever met him you'd know why.  He is such a special boy and when he was born his parents had no idea he couldn't hear until the age of 2.  They were told he was born with Sensorineural Hearing.  La'Tavian at this age had to  undergo a Cochlear Implant Surgery to insert a special metal receiver behind his right ear through his skull and then later on the left ear.  This device was needed for him to be able to hear and once this device was implimented La'Tavian adapted quickly to his new ears. He began to learn American Sign Language (ASL) in order for him to communicate better.  He began to adapt a normal childhood like other children with a few special learning exceptions because of his hearing loss.

Throughout the years La'Tavian has always been a very active little boy until Sunday March 4th, 2018.  La'Tavian was outside like any other child that afternoon playing football with his dad and cousins. He communicated to his dad that he was tired and wanted some water.  La'Tavian proceeded to  go in the house to get some water and began to run at which time he fell to the floor and his grandmother Ella went to pick him up and noticed he was seizing once she turned his lifeless body over.  At this time, Ella who has been in the medical field, instructed her other sons to get his dad and to call 911.  The last thing that La'Tavian communicated in sign language to his dad was that he needed a doctor.  Once the ambulance arrived they began to work on him at which time he had another seizure.  Once they had arrived at Oklahoma University Medical Center Children's Hospital La'Tavian's heart rate dropped and went into full cardiac arrest.  The doctor and nurses immediately performed CPR with oxygen mask, and eventually he had to be shocked back to life, because they couldn't find no pulse.  The doctors were successful at bringing our precious angel back.  La'Tavian was put on a breathing ventilator (life-support) after he was put into a medically induced coma to keep his body stable enough to run tests that were needed to find out what caused him to seize and go into a full cardiac arrest.   On Monday La'Tavian went into another full cardiac arrest which took 2 hours of again the CPR with oxygen mask and the defibrillator shocks trying to save his life.  The doctor then informed family that he would have to be placed on a ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) machine in order to save his life. He had a blood tranfusion during the time they were hooking him up to the ECMO machine.

After performing a CAT scan, chest x-rays, blood work, and 3 echocardiogram tests the doctors found that La'Tavian had a abnormal coronary artery vessel around his heart. The doctors at that point made the decision to do open heart surgery.  The cardiologist advised his family that La'Tavian was born with this and there was no way of knowing he had this abnormality. He was rushed to emergency open heart surgery where the cardiologist, Dr. Burkhardt, and his team performed a Coronary Uproofing procedure to fix this defect.  La'Tavian's heart was severly stressed that even after surgery he was left on the ECMO machine for 4 days and currently he is still on the breathing ventilator (life-support). The machine and life-support is assisting La'Tavian's other organs that were damaged during his cardiac arrest to heal.

So as this is being written our 7 year old superman is still  in ICU fighting for his life in a medically induced coma with his chest and sternum open where you can literally see his little heart beating inside of his chest. The miracles these doctors have performed so far have been amazing and they continue to heal our baby every day little by little. This Heart Fund will go directly to his immediate family to help in the continued care and recovery of La'Tavian so that he can be given the necessary level of care and attention he deserves since his mother has limited vacation at her job nor do they recieve any state assistance.  La'Tavian has a 5 year old sister and his parents still have to pay bills and rent throughout this crucial time.  Any donations no matter the amount will help tremendously and greatly appreciated. If you cannot donate at this time we understand, we ask you to please share on your social media page. If you are unable to do so, please pray for our little superman. We can all do a little to help this baby.  He is a fighter and we have faith that he will recover. Thank you to every single person who is praying for this baby, it's working!!
