Assalamu Alaykum,

Alhamdulilah Ramadan is around the corner, Muslims fast for 30 days during this holy month. Fasting during the month of Ramadan is a pillar of Islam, it brings about nearness to Allah (God) as well as a form of spiritual discipline and a means to empathise with those less fortunate.

My name is Bintu and I am a Sierra Leonean who lives in Oregon, United States with my family. I spent the last ten nights of Ramada in Sierra Leone last year which happened to be the birth of this exciting event. We had over 700 people attend the Eid event; feeding over 3,000 people altogether (suhoor, Iftar and Eid).

I am organising this fundraiser again this year to provide Iftar (the fast-breaking meal) during the last 10 nights of Ramadan and Suhoor (the morning breakfast) on the odd nights, to the poor community of Kondibotihun in Kenema Town. The funds will also go towards providing a large Eid event filled with a big feast (catered Eid meal) and festivities (worship, games, gifts for the kids, Musical set and more ) for the community. All funds raised will go directly towards benefiting the 2 mosques in the community.

Due to the financial instability in the region, it has not been possible to organize and set up such community Iftars or Eid celebrations that inspire and bring hope and happiness to all generations until last year.

The Prophet (saw) said, ‘Whoever feeds a person breaking his fast will earn the same reward as him, without anything being lessened from the reward of the fasting person’. (Tirmidhi).
