Last Days of Summer: Young Black Farmer Excursion

Donation protected
In times that are so unpredictable, the greatest thing we can commit to preserve is the spirit and resilience of our communities. That is why we are requesting your support for a transformative initiative created by and for young Black Farmers called Last Days of Summer at Sapelo Island.

Last Days of Summer is an excursion to the coastal saltwater geechee lands of Sapelo Island for young Black farmers to engage in mutual aid work with the aging community of the historic Hog Hammock neighborhood. The initiative was birthed from the minds of Jennifer Thompson of Greene Clothe Collective and Eva Dickerson of Passionfruit Farms, two young Black women farmers who share a love for land stewardship, food justice, and Black cultural preservation.

Our campers will travel from around the country to offer their time, talent and tithe to the sacred land. Under the light of the full moon we will consult with elders and build intimacies from which our deepest desires for freedom can be revealed. We will fashion our own healing and that of our people through communion with the land, the sea, and each other. With your support, we can make this experience accessible to all of our campers while still being able to compensate our hosts on the Island for their generosity in welcoming us.

This experiment in freedom would not be possible without the support of our community, so we are immensely grateful for every donation.  We have a deadline of October 23 to reach our fundraising goal in time to purchase necessary supplies and food for the weekend. Please send monetary donations through GoFundme or make in-kind donations of supplies here: https://www.myregistry.com/organization/greene-clothe-collective-atlanta-ga/2577264
