Visibleman's LAST CLASS of Grad School
Hello. I'm Visibleman. Well, my real name is Richard Edward Hicks.* And I'm almost there. Two years going to grad school part-time and I nearly have an M.A. (Masters of Arts) from Savannah College of Art & Design, (SCAD). Only ONE CLASS LEFT!
Yes, the classes are pricey. Even with my educator's scholarship (almost 50% off standard tuition) the class is still just under $1800.00. A substantial amount but very possible to achieve. Good news is that all previous classes are paid for, and I've already had my graduate exhibit, "At The Edge of Insight", (got an A, thank you very much). This last class that I'm raising funds for (Theories and Processes) is a lecture class. That means NO art supplies necessary, though research papers will be required. This class begins in the fall.
Now I'm not asking for free money. I'm offering rewards and willing to work. Nice rewards especially for art lovers in the form of limited edition prints, and original works. But also I'll be offering my more practical skills such as graphic design, illustration services or creative consulting for small businesses depending on your needs. I'm not going to be idle. I want to make this happen so I'll stay as busy as possible.
You might ask: "Why should I bother helping this guy finish art school of all things? Can't he learn to paint on his own?"
Good Question. Here are some answers.
1. First of all I've been an illustrator, graphic designer, web and digital designer for my entire professional career. My intention to sucessfully finish a graduate program in fine arts has come as a result of a desire to take my craft as far as possible during this lifetime. Graduate studies demand more than an "I know what I like" approach. They demand not only continuous work, experimentation and peer reviews, but a great deal of reading, writing and thinking about this thing called "Art" and our part to play in it. In addition, I'm attempting to do something challenging and extraordinary with this gift of a life, and someday you may want to do something extraordinary too, (maybe you already have). This is a good way of confirming your own goals. Honestly, I never thought I could do this but one day the opportunity appeared, I jumped on it and here I am, ONE class away. And I have to say, I'm happy with the results in my work, and greatly desire to finish what I've started.
2. You're supporting the arts in a very specific way. The visual arts are a part of what makes us human beings, and promotes in us a sense of wonder.

3. If you are an art collector, while not at the beginning of my career, I'm at a point where I'm beginning to create some of my best works so far. My current work represents a break-through into what I feel is a more relevant and refined level of painting with the mind's eye still focused on the visionary aspects.
4. If you're not an art collector, there are also rewards that you will like such as art-direction/design consultation, graphic design, print oversight and web/tech skills you may need for your personal or small business.
5. You may simply want to help someone and this cause "resonates" with you for some reason. Art is energy but so is the exchange of money. Not everyone can or should take a life-time to develop these skills as I have, (it isn't always easy or fun, believe me), but many are gifted with other financially rewarding skills and have a genuine love for the arts that allows them to support artists and enjoy collecting works.

6. You DON'T need to help this guy. That is an option too. In my humble opinion, no one is obligated to buy my work or support me, or the arts in general. You're totally off the hook. But find someone or something to support. Crowdfunding is an amazing concept and I believe that we all deserve a chance to act on our vision and prove what we can do. Rest assured that I will also be contributing to someone elses efforts to go back to school.
"If you're class is just under $1800, why are you asking $1950.00?" It is to help defray the the cost of rewards, packaging and postage, which can quickly get out of hand. Actually, I will have to subsidize the cost of production of prints, t-shirts etc., but I believe I can make this work and keep the goal under 2K.

* The name "visibleman" came to me several years ago when I was doing Video Mixing with dj friends at parties and events. I needed a "vj" name so...VM, "Visibleman" was born! I started signing paintings like this and it became a brand. When I use my real name, I like to use my middle name "Edward" too as a tip-of-the-hat to Edward Hicks, the Quaker folk artist who painted "Peaceable Kingdom", 64 versions of it I think. One version hangs in the American wing of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. I once spent about an hour gazing at it.
