This is Andrew Vu. Some of you reading this may not know him but he is a good friend of mine and right now he needs our help. This is his story...

My name is Andrew. I am a brother and a son. I like to believe that I am a compassionate and self-less person. I was diagnosed with Type-2 diabetes in 2012. For the past 8 years I have dedicated myself to living a healthier lifestyle due to my diagnoses. I enjoy working out, biking, and just being with my family and friends. Like some of you reading this, COVID-19 left me job-less and, as a result, without medical insurance.

Recently, my eyesight started failing me. I noticed that my vision was blurred and was getting progressively worse as the days went on. Initially, I thought that I could just sleep it off but every morning it worsened. I prayed and hoped that the next time I woke up my vision would be restored but it has not yet happened. After looking online I realized that what was happening to me was potentially a result of my diabetic condition.

After consulting with my optometrist and physician, and having blood work done, my fear had been realized and I was diagnosed with Diabetic Retinopathy. Basically, my sugar levels are out of control and this is damaging the blood vessels in the back of my eyes, causing my body to overcompensate by creating new blood vessels that aren't fully developed and end up leaking fluids causing vision loss. If my condition worsens or goes untreated I could develop glaucoma.

Now, my medical bills are stacking up.
Doctors visits are $150 per visit, lab tests are $500. Surgery for my condition costs roughly $3000. I haven't been able to set up a consultation with the retina specialist because I don't have the funds to pay for it. On top of this, medication to treat my diabetes alone are costly. I need to have two types of insulin which total $500 each per refill and each refill lasts me about 2-3 months. Test strips for my glucose meter and pin needles cost about $60 for 100 each, which last me about 30 days.

I can no longer sustain myself and have to rely on friends and family to help me with seemingly basic daily tasks; I cant drive myself to the grocery store, I can't workout, I can't use my phone, I can't even read a menu. Finding work has only gotten harder because my vision loss has made it nearly impossible to look at a computer screen to submit applications. But...I can't give up. If nothing else comes out of this, I know a testimony of God's faithfulness will. In the end, God will prevail and God will provide.

This is Andrew. Anything you can donate will help him and get him one step closer to getting treatment and getting his life as close to normal as possible again. We will keep praying for him and coming in to agreement with him. As he stated, God will prevail and God will provide.
