Lars' medical bills and funeral cost

Hi family and friends,

We are currently living every family’s worst nightmare. You hug your loved one, expecting to see them in a few days after a surgery that is supposed to help keep them healthy.

Instead of a few days of recovery we have no idea if Lars will ever walk again.

Instead of seeing him healthy after surgery, so many tears were shed.

Instead of his kids getting to hug him by the end of the week we have no idea when he will be able to see them.

Lars is someone with confidence and a light that filled the room. This surgery didn’t just take feeling away from his body, but it took that light. Lars went into Edwards hospital for a laminectomy and laminotomy. Essentially, he had calcification build up over 20 years after a car crash that was pinching his spinal cord all the way from c-2 to c-7. As the calcification increased, the circulation in his hands and feet began cutting off, leaving numbness. After removing the calcification, his body went into shock, making it difficult to wake him. This caused him to be intubated the first night. After some time, he was able to be extubated, and can now speak and eat. This small improvement is a step on a very long road.

For those of you that know Lars, you know he absolutely loves taking care of everyone and everything. It is such a strange turn around. We all watched the clock as a 4-hour surgery became 5, then 6, then 7. When 8 hours passed everyone became terrified. It took too long for him to wake up and the tears wouldn’t stop.

We started this Go-fund me account to ease the burden on Teresa who has been working tirelessly throughout the pandemic as a medical worker. This will enable Lars and his family to concentrate on his recovery. As you can imagine, the normal cost of everyday living- such as food, mortgage, gas (driving back and forth to the hospital), car, etc. – plus the added medical costs, the financial burden can be astronomical.

Over the next few days, weeks, and months ahead there will need to be countless doctor appointments, hospital stays, rehabilitation, and who knows what else. From the bottom of our hearts, we humbly ask that you share this link with friends and family, and if possible, in giving (any amount will help).

We thank you for your support and kind wishes!!
