Larry Guthrie
The Campaign:
Captain Larry Guthrie, a pilot for American Airlines, went out on medical disability 15 months ago for what was described as a stroke. A few weeks ago, he was diagnosed with an aggressive type of stomach cancer known as adenocarcinoma with signet ring cell features.
The cancer appears to be late Stage 2 level based on laparoscopy. Ironically, looking back and connecting the dots over the past couple of years, it would appear that the cancer was the primary culprit of all issues leading up to and pertaining to the stroke. Doctors say the cancer has been present for at least the last year but never properly diagnosed.
The cancer appears to be contained in the stomach and has not yet metastasized to the other organs. The signet ring cell features is what makes this cancer so rare and aggressive apparently inflicting only about 4% of cancers.
The doctors say the best case scenario is to immediately start aggressive chemotherapy treatments for three months, followed by surgery to remove the stomach, (gastrectomy), several months of recovery followed by more chemotherapy. This process will take approximately one year. Larry started chemotherapy on the 12th of December.
What the money will be used for:
There will be immediate out of pocket costs associated with this aggressive form of cancer. The money will be used to cover medical expenses that are not covered by insurance. Larry will explore homeopathic options too. Please help Larry with a donation to help offset those costs.
