Larison Family Medical Expenses

Donation protected
Our beloved Drew Larison was a fully functioning 16 year old boy.  He loved nothing more than playing hockey and basketball with his friends, playing video games and just doing things that any teenager would enjoy doing.  However, in January of 2017, things began to change.  Drew began to experience some neurological symptoms - a subtle twitching of his finger.  By March, the twitch became jerking movements of his head and arms.   In May, Drew was admitted into Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City as he could no longer walk.  His condition was critical.  Doctors worked round the clock trying to identify what the cause of his symptoms were.

The Summer of 2017 was a roller coaster ride for the Larison Family.  Drew spent the majority of his summer break in the hospital undergoing every test imaginable while at the same time going through rigorous Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy, and Occupational Therapy where he had to learn how to eat, drink, walk, etc.  Drew lost all memory.  He could not remember the childhood home he was raised in for 15 years.  He could not remember friends, family members, holidays, birthdays. It was gone!

In August of 2017, with no answers as to what was attacking Drew,  the family was urged to travel to Mayo Clinic to see medical experts in the field of neurology and immunology.   Drew again went through a battery of tests including extensive Genetic testing.  Again, no definitive answers.

Drews condition continued to decline and hospitalizations became more frequent.  In November, it was determined he would benefit from some extensive rehabilitation.  As such, Drew and his mother headed to Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln Nebraska.  There, Drew received extensive Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, and Recreational Therapy.  Two days before Christmas, Drew and his mom returned home.

2018 has been a challenging year as Drews condition continues to decline.  Hospitalizations have been frequent.   Because of his need for 24 hour care, the family had to make some very tough decisions.  In February, both Mom and Dad ran out of vacation and sick time.  No longer could they continue as a two income family.     Drews Mom became Drews full time caregiver while his Dad continued to work and help the family make ends meet.

It has been nearly 2 years since Drew was stricken with this illness.  The family continues to do everything they can to help Drew and find a cure for this mystery illness.  But, as Drews condition continues to decline, his needs are greater.   As you can imagine, the medical bills are compounding the stress on this family.   They need our help!  Anything you would be willing to donate would be much appreciated.
