We are very excited to be holding our first of hopefully many fundraisers aimed at enhancing educational experiences around the globe. We are fundraising for Volta Children's Foundation, an orphanage and school in Ghana, that is was also founded by a teen! Here is a little more about the organization in the words of their founder and leader, Mckenzie: "We are a 501(c)3 charity in the United States that runs an orphanage and school in rural Ghana. We serve children who have been trafficked, abused, neglected, or willing fully given up by their biological families. Our school is a Montessori style school and has been the top school in our region (the Volta region) for the past three years! We use positive reinforcement and do not cane our children ever (a common practice in Ghana). We currently have about 30 kids in our care, some are off at secondary school though, and we offer free schooling (usually there are fees involved in school) to about 250 kids in our orphanages community who do not have the means to send their kids to school otherwise!"
Right now, students at the VCF school do not have access to computers or laptops. This means that they are learning how to use technology (a necessary skill and part of the national exams) by drawing a computer screen and keyboard on a chalkboard. Our goal with this fundraiser is to help VCF school purchase 10 laptops, which will not only help students learn technology but also open up helpful educational websites and a wealth of information.
Thank you for your time, we hope you will consider donating and sharing our fundraiser!
