Lap Nguyen's ICU Recovery

Donation protected

Message from Lap's Co-worker: My friends and I are starting this fundraiser to help our dear co-worker, Lap Nguyen. He has been working at Hewlett Packard for 20 years. He organizes soccer games during lunch time and is a stellar player. At home Lap is a supportive husband and  exceptional father to his 3 children.

Lap started Hewlett Packard in 1999 as a Product Engineer. His inventive work in ink delivery systems has culminated in several ink dispensory patents and innovations. At work, he is a trusted friend and colleague. He is always happy to help wherever possible and whenever possible.

In December 2017, Lap began suffering from a rare disease called “dermatomyositis." Within weeks his condition changed from playing lunchtime soccer to being ICU bound at Legacy Emmanuel Hospital. The idiopathic inflammatory myopathy (IIM) is a systemic disorder that most frequently affects the skin and muscles, but also debilitates the esophagus, the lungs, and the heart. He has transitioned to fully breathing via ventilator, receiving sustenance through a feeding tube, and being heavily sedated to conserve his strength.

Although doctors postulate that Lap's recovery will take months, all hope is not lost. Family donations have sustained the Nguyen family, allowing Lap to be transferred into the appropriate higher levels of care. Any donation will go to keeping an ECMO lung bypass device running so that Lap can breathe and gradually recover.

Lap's children attend university while in the care of their stay at home mom. They live in Vancouver, WA and a $30,000 GoFundMe goal will improve the Nguyen family's situation during their time of need.

Message from Lap's Wife: I am Lap's wife, Huong Nguyen. We are originally from Vietnam and have been living in Vancouver with our three children for 22 years. The funds that we receive from this fundraiser will be used to pay for Lap's medical expenses with hope that he recovers. If he unfortunately loses the battle, the money will be used towards his funeral, medical co-pay, and other family needs.
