Laos children’s hospital volunteer

Improving children’s health and survival is a top priority in Laos , as it is in most countries of the world. However, years of widespread conflict and poverty have stalled health care development, and poor public infrastructure combined with high mountainous terrain present a constant barrier for children and families to access high-quality health care.

Children are the most vulnerable and affected by these challenges. It is therefore common for children to die from preventable and treatable diseases, such as malaria, pneumonia, burns, malnutrition and diarrhea. The statistics are alarming with approximately one in five children will not live to see their fifth birthday. LFHC is the only hospital in northern Laos to offer neonatal services, providing life-saving care for newborn babies that otherwise have no access to proper healthcare for essential development.

Lao Friends Hospital for Children opened in 2015, and now treats up to 20,000 children per year. With the primary emphasis of education to parents, providing preventative measures.

So, here's were I come in. A paediatric nurse for 7 years now, I wanted to give something back. A long term dream to work abroad, and finally, I have met my match. After a recent trip to Laos, and the inside knowledge of a beautiful friends' experience at the hospital, I have decided to embark on just that journey. Volunteering at the LHFC in July for 5 weeks this year is what I have signed up
for! Now I need some help to get there. As a volunteer I am required to pay for all expenses. Albeit, I have saved, everything helps! Thank you in advance for helping me live this dream. I hope to change some little lives along the way.
