I am setting up this account for my dearest friends and their 5 year old little boy Landyn. We have been friends for what seems like a lifetime and our youngest child has been bff's with Landyn since he was born.
On August 18th Landyn went in for an MRI to see why he has been suffering from severe headaches, vomiting, and dizziness. The scans showed a tumor by his brain stem which is responsible for those functions your body does on its own(breathing etc). That meant that he would not be leaving the hospital and would be having surgery to remove the large tumor in the 4th ventricle of his brain.
They scheduled surgery for the next morning, but while going through pre-operative prep they did another MRI and they found other spots on his brain and on his spinal cord. Surgery alone will not cure him.
Landyn has a long road ahead of him, and he is just starting his journey of treatment and recovery. What we don't know is what that journey will look like at this point. We do know that it is a cancerous tumor and the biopsy will help doctors tailor a treatment plan and give a more accurate prognosis. Landyn will need some combination of chemotherapy and radiation therapy dependent upon what type of cancer this is based on the biopsy of the tumor they removed. He may need more surgeries. He will be having prolonged hospital stays. His road to recovery will be hard and last months and possibly years. He will need love and support. His Mom and Dad will need lots of hugs, love, and help too. This is going to be a long and very difficult time regardless of what the final scans show.
I am asking you to dig deep, The whole Zoellick family and their friends are absolutely devastated as you can imagine, their beautiful little boy is going through a really tough time and the whole process has been traumatic and continues to throw curve balls as each day passes.
Anything you can donate will be greatly appreciated, everything helps big or small and all funds will be deposited directly into the Zoellick's account. Please, keep him in your thoughts and pray for him to get him through this time.
As this is ongoing, this will be updated as we know more. A benefit is being planned to be held in Watertown with a date TBD.
