Landon Davis Eagle Scout Project, Joy Garden

Hi all,

 

I am honored and excited to let everyone know about my Eagle Scout project, a meditation garden for Prosper Independent School District’s (PISD) Family Resource Center built in honor of my late grandmother, Joyce Mills. The school district purchased and renovated a building to house their Family Resource Center this past Spring. The building once served as the headquarters for an egg farm, and the owner, Sonny Mayhard, had a suite of office spaces there. On the outside of the suite he had a quaint, enclosed backyard garden. The Prosper ISD Family Resource Center will take up Sonny’s office suite as well as having direct access to the garden. The staff of the center wanted the garden to serve as a place for families who frequented there to have a place to unwind, reflect and relax. My grandmother was a lifelong educator and a founder of, and integral part of a family resource center in Beckley, West Virginia, so the project seemed to fit perfectly given my family's history. Unfortunately, my grandmother has passed; but she was a heavy supporter of scouting and always supported me on my journey. By doing this project, I feel as though I am honoring her life and the things that were important to her. Which is why the garden is named, JOY GARDEN. I want the garden to serve as a place of zen. It means so much to me to give back to families in my community who I know would value such a special place. It will feature a turf ground, fig ivy on the walls, a beautiful water feature, seating, a river rock border and plants to complement the area.

 

This project is very important to me and my family as well as hundreds of Prosper ISD families and I can’t wait to get it started. As part of an Eagle project, I have to serve as the leader of the project and also raise the funds for it. While Prosper ISD is covering part of the costs of the project, I must raise approximately $6,500 to complete the garden. I would be grateful for any donation you can make to support me and the project.

 

As a way to honor and recognize those that have donated to support the JOY GARDEN, I will be personalizing river rocks that will fill in the border with the donors’ names and any short message they would like added.
