Landlord misled me and I owe 2 months rent!

Hey friends, in November I was offered a month to month lease phrased as “available now”. Nothing indicated otherwise. Since that, I found a cheaper better apartment that would save me $100’s a month! Only to find out I was mislead and the month to month didn’t start until April 1st. I’m now being told I’m commuting a lease break. I need to be out by January 1st, and my landlord is asking I surrender my deposit and pay the remaining 3 months (Jan-March) despite my apparent month to month lease. Had I known this wasn’t the case, I wouldn’t have progressed forward. Attached is the offer I was given.
I don’t have a way to come up with $2000 out of nowhere and pay rent at two different places. I hate to ask for help, but as they said, “we know that in times of uncertainty it is great to have a sense of stability”.
