Lana's recovery from brain surgery

Lana Faye Magallanes, “Jing” as fondly called by almost everyone is a vibrant personality. Talented and versatile that she is, she has always been a source of positivity and fun by friends and family. Her outgoing nature and friendliness makes her very likeable. Jing is a 45-year old, harworking mother of two. At a young age, she raised both of her sons by herself after having lost her husband from an unforseen event. Despite this, she never lost her positive attitude. She struggled to make both ends meet for her family, but her fun-filled self never wearied. She has always made herself available for everyone, she never gets tired nor exhausted and always finds joy when lending a helping hand.

As her sons were getting into high school and college, Jing decided to leave for Dubai to work in order to provide for the ever increasing needs of her family. Despite the distance, Jing never fails to make her presence felt among her friends and family. Difficult family situations never faltered her, instead, it inspired her to strive and work even harder until an unexpected tragic event struck her and her family.

A few weeks ago, as she was walking her way to work, Jing suddenly collapsed and was rushed to the hospital. A CT scan showed that she had a stroke - a big clot in her brain caused her to be paralyzed on her right side.

Jing is now unable to talk and is always drowsy. The doctors urgently dissolved the clot. The procedure was successful, however, a repeat CT scan was done which showed a bleed and her brain is swelling up. Jing has deteriorated even further and it was even more difficult to wake her up. This required the doctors to perform another surgery to release the pressure to her skull due to the inflammation in her brain. For days, she was attached to life-support devices and medications to stabilize her vital signs following the surgery. Jing is now in the high-dependency unit after her operation. She is more awake and is starting to undergo rehabilitation. The right side of her body is still paralyzed and her speech is slurred. Jing has still a long way to go on her path to recovery. Her friends, employer and colleagues are taking turns to look after Jing in the hospital each day and supporting her in every way they can. It is extremely difficult for her to be alone with this situation in a foreign land. Despite everything she has gone through, she’s still fighting to survive. Each day, she shows signs of improvement, she does not give up and is trying really hard to go back to her optimal self. She wishes to be reunited with her family in Iloilo, Philippines.

We are appealing for your help and generosity to help us bring Jing back home and support her on her road to recovery.

Thank You & God Bless Us All!
