Jennifer Dietrich's Hit & Run

Donation protected
Please help our family survive a devastating hit & run accident that almost claimed the life of our dear Jennifer.

Jennifer Dietrich is pictured (on right) with her brother and sister.

On January 20, 2015, our lives changed forever.  Jenn was hit by a truck while walking across the street after work.  The driver left her lying on the road...alone and broken.  As of today, we do not know what the future will hold for Jenn in regards to being able to stand, walk, or work, all due to some careless inhumane person behind the wheel who just kept on driving and didn't stop to help her.  The driver has yet to be found.

We received a call from the hospital on that horrible night. We were told to come as soon as possible because she may not survive the trauma to her body.  They could not stop the bleeding.  We drove to the hospital not knowing what her status was.  The doctors worked on her for close to 6 hours.  They found severe pelvic damage, a ruptured bladder, a punctured lung,  deep lacerations from her left hip to her groin, a fractured spine at T12, and the main blood vessel to her abdomen torn in half that was causing internal bleeding. It took hours to control and many units of blood to keep her alive.

We finally got to see Jenn after waiting for 7 hours.  The first look at her battered body was heartbreaking.  To see your baby girl laying there with such severe injuries and in so much pain is something that no mother should have to endure.

Jenn had to be intubated to assist with her breathing and they also had to give her a chest tube to keep her stabilized.

Since that night, every day of her life has been "touch and go" with the doctors not knowing how much more she can survive.  She has had multiple surgeries on her pelvis to fix the "open book" break and to realign and secure her pelvic bone, bladder surgery to repair it from being torn in half, and surgery to close the deep laceration in her hip to groin area.  Once all of those surgeries were completed, Jenn had injuries under the skin that were discovered. These blisters have caused her skin to wipe right off of her body.

Jenn is looking at many more months in the Burn Unit due to the extensive nerve and tissue damage on her leg and back. She will also be required to endure rehab therapy for many years to come. The length of time that will be required to repair her battered body is unknown.
After being in the Trauma ICU Unit for over 2 weeks, Jenn was moved to the Burn Unit so that they could treat her skin.  Jenn's left inner calf and lower back had tissue that has now died from the blunt force trauma.  Jenn's nerves and tissues in those areas had to be cut away now leaving her without an inner calf and a large section of tissue missing from her lower back.

The next step in the process to heal Jenn is skin grafting and additional tissue removal.  A tracheostomy was done after she was intubated for 3 weeks to help with her breathing.

We are hopeful that at some point during the next year, Jenn will be able to move into her mother's home once it has been adapted to accomodate her mobility needs.

We are asking forany donation that you can give to us, no matter how large or small, to help alleviate the expenses that our family has acquired while our beloved daughter and sister, Jenn, recovers from this horrific accident.

Anything that you can do is greatly appreciated,
Dee, Jesse & Mandy (Jenn's mom, brother & sister)
