Lalia Georgadze Rehabilitation

My friend is very ill. Her name is Lalia Georgadze and few years ago she came here from Tbilisi, Georgia. In February of 2017, she found out that she has a cancer of nasal cavity. This type of cancer is inoperable, so she underwent a seven-week course of radiation, then a course of chemotherapy. After all these procedures, she almost lost her hearing, can barely walk now, and has difficulty breathing. Miraculously her treatment was covered by the insurance. However, she is not working now and won’t be able to work for about year until her complete recovery. Her relatives from Tbilisi, whom she helped before, are now helping her by sending just enough money to rent half a room in someone’s apartment. She has no relatives here in New York, some friends have also been supporting her from time to time but it’s barely enough. And, like I mentioned earlier she has to completely recover until she is ready to go back to work.

More about Lali. She is little over fifty, a costume designer by trade, worked in Drama Theater in Tbilisi, then taught a costume design at the private school. Here in United States, Lali always worked as a nanny. I think that the children were really lucky to have her as their nanny! It’s not often you meet someone who enjoys life this much! She hardly ever complains and lives very simply. The other day I went to see her, because she can hardly hear on the phone. I’m writing to ask you to contribute something to her recovery. In her situation Lali cannot rely on any government structures and our support is all she can get. I think it’s also very valuable and important to her to know that she is not alone and there are people who are willing to support her. Thank you.
