LakeVille Wrestling Center Eagle Scout Project
I am Alex Buckel, a 2020 graduate of LakeVille High School in Otisville, Michigan, LakeVille Wrestling Alumnus, and member of BSA Troop 214.
Since my Sophomore year I have been apart of a great program, or family if you
will, the LakeVille Wrestling Team. Many people go through the LakeVille Wrestling Facility, whether to learn a great sport or to coach others on their journey. My first time going to the facility was that year. I'd never wrestled before, but the coach had obviously saw promise in me. My winning average that first year was not stellar, but I continued on, attending every practice, and learning new skills.
In Junior year our team went on to win the District Championship.
By Senior year, I had built up my winning record. I was awarded "Most Improved", "Perfect Attendance", and "Scholar Athlete". And as a team, we once again earned the title of District Champions.
I had planned to wrestle post-season, however the 2020 pandemic prevented that. The pandemic hindered a lot of activities my Senior year.
As I now look to my future, I want to repay the coaches, the team, the wrestling family that gave me so much encouragement.
For my Eagle Scout project, I will lead a team in creating an outdoor patio area for our wrestling facility. This will include: a bricked gathering area, flag pole, picnic table, raised shrub bed, and an all new sign identifying the center as The Jeff Pickens Wrestling Facility.
Your support of my project will be used to purchase supplies to build the patio, prepare the grounds, and obtain the sign. Meanwhile, my wrestling family, fellow boy scouts, and family and friends will come together the end of October to take action on the project.
All their volunteer hours, as well as monetary donations through this campaign, are greatly appreciated!
I hope to create a lasting focal point, not only for the facility, but also the main school campus. I hope for it to serve as encouragement for future wrestlers, and scouts, to stick to their dreams.
