Hello my name is Fuschia and my husband and I found out we are having conjoined twin girls! We found out at my 20 week ultrasound check up. When I found out I was pregnant I had to know the gender. When my OB/GYN ran labs we found out we were having a girl. I was beyond excited because we have a little boy already. Fast forward to my 20 week ultrasound. I was exploding just to see our daughter. As the ultrasound ensues my Dr begins scanning I see her head. Not blinking I continue to stare I see another head....Wait I felt like I miss saw I blurt out is that a second baby? He's quite as he continues to go back and forth. I look at my husband as the Dr. continues he goes to get my midwife. They both begin to inform us there are indeed two babies, twins but there conjoined and sharing organs. Feeling like all the air had been sucked out of the room I cry. What did I do to my girls? How? Why? I was told its nothing anyone did its just a random occurrence that happens 1 in every 200,000 births. My care was then transferred to a high risk Dr.
The closets MFM was about 3 hours away. In the beginning we were having weekly appointments. The MFM appointments were very informative yet disappointing as they confirmed the girls were indeed sharing a heart and liver. Aborting became the new topic when meeting new doctors. We knew that wasn't an option for us. We were told the girls chance of survival to birth were slim and if they did make it to birth there was only a 50% chance they'll survive the first 24 hrs. Again no good information. I couldn't believe because I feel them moving around all the time just like with my son very active. My family and friends pray and we have faith that the girls will have a long life whether it be together or separate. Our family had to relocate because of all expenses accruing and better healthcare for our babies. We relocated to NJ our son has been so good with all the travel and doctors appointments. sense moving all the appointments are going well. The girls are growing just fine and continue to be very active. Our son is very excited about his sisters coming. Our family continues to await our precious girls with excitement and anticipation. Thank you for reading and contributing if you feel the need or want to do so. WELCOME to Lailani and Iyana's Journey!!
