Abbey Lynn Roney

Miss Abbey Lynn Roney was born to Brian and Stephanie Roney on January 20, 2015, at 11:53am. She was born with a condition of spina bifida called myelomeningocele. It is a birth defect in which the backbone and spinal canal do not close before birth. Abbey has been in the neo-natal intensive care unit since her birth. Stephanie was diagnosed with severe preeclampsia and gave birth to Abbey early at 34 weeks in Nashville, Tennessee at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.
Since her birth, Abbey has endured and fought through 5 surgeries in 3 weeks and is overcoming a lung issue. She is a fighter. She has come through each of these surgeries with resilience and spunk and is showing her own little personality. She even “swatted” a nurse’s hand away from her breathing tube to show she is the boss!
During this time, Stephanie and Brian have been by her side each and every day at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. These teams of doctors are some of the best in the country for Abbey’s condition. They are working around the clock to help her get home to Augusta GA, which may not be until mid-March or later.
During this time, neither Stephanie nor Brian are working and have taken leaves of absences from both of their jobs. While Stephanie’s benefits are helping right now, they do end and do not cover all their expenses. They have received both love and support from their families and are now able to share Abbey with everyone else.
