Lael's Special Needs

Donation protected
I would like to introduce you to Lael.  Lael will be 2 years old on December 17. He’s pretty much a happy baby considering all he must endure. Lael was born with a condition called 15q13.3, which is a microchromosome deletion syndrome. A genetic and rare disease. 15q13.3 is a genetic disorder caused by a deletion of several genes on chromosome 15. This deletion of genes causes other functions to not operate correctly. A few conditions brought on by this deletion for Lael are:

Nystagmus, this is a rapid, rhythmic, repetitious, and involuntary eye movements. It can be horizontal, vertical, or rotary. Which is an abnormal eye condition and a sign of disease within the eye or the nervous system. Lael is considered legally blind at this stage.

Kidney problems, his is hydronephrosis. This is a condition where the kidney has become swollen due to urine build up in the bladder. This happens when a blockage exists when urine is blocked from exiting the bladder or from reverse flowing from the bladder, or reflux. Lael has this condition in his right kidney at the moment.

Cerebral palsy, which is a group of disorders that affect movement and muscle tone or posture. This is cause by damage that occurs to the immature brain as it develops.

Autism, I’m sure many of you realize what autism is, how it is a developmental disorder, with difficulties with social interaction and communication, also by restricted and repetitive behavior.

Hypotonia, this is a low muscle tone, (the amount of tension or resistance to stretch in a muscle involving reduced muscle strength).

Gastrostomy tube, (G-tube) this tube is inserted in his stomach, to deliver the nutrition he needs directly to his stomach.

Epilepsy, his brings on many censures for him. He must take 3 medications daily to try and stop them.

Lael is currently getting therapy for speech, occupational, physical and educational. At the present time he cannot speak, sit up, crawl, walk, grab on to things. With the different therapy he is receiving he is learning to eat certain food by mouth, how to try and grab and hold on to things such as a rattle or toy. The physical therapy is to teach him how to do simple movements like to roll over.

Lael has a long journey ahead of him, I am here because with his conditions he has, it is hard to get around to all his specialist and therapy appointments in the small car that we own. With his special wheelchair like stroller that he needs will not fit into the car. We are looking to buy a new wheelchair accessable minivan to accommodate all of Lael’s needs and are asking for any help possible. Every simple donation would be greatly appreciated, and all donation will go to all of Lael needs only.

From all of us in the Morales Family and Lael, we would like to kindly thank you all for the kind donations. We appreciate all with any and all help given.
