Labre Street Ministry BSU 2021

Donation protected
We are raising funds for an initiative founded by students this fall at St. Paul’s Catholic Center, the home of the Boise State University Catholic community, called Labre (pronounced “La-bruh”) Street Ministry. Labre is a ministry to our neighbors who are rendered homeless in Boise. Every Sunday after Mass students and community members gather to go out and meet the marginalized and poorest of our community where they are at. This ministry was founded by students, one of whom went to St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland where Labre Ministry first started over 18 years ago.

You can read a recent article from the Idaho Catholic Register about our ministry here: https://tinyurl.com/LabreBSU2020

We start off by making fresh sandwiches, bagged lunches, and kits of essential supplies, then we go out with these lunches to meet people where they are at. We travel around the city of Boise looking for people that are in need. Once we find someone that is in need, this is where this ministry separates from the rest. We take the time not only to make and give these lunches to our neighbors, but we also get to know them and form relationships within the community.  We introduce ourselves to them and ask them about their lives. We want them to know we truly care about them and are not just there to see that their physical bodies are fed, but also that their spirits are fed with human connection.

Jesus calls us to look at the marginalized as a representation of himself within our community and says that when you feed, or clothe, or comfort those in need, you are doing so to Him. At Labre we view every person we encounter as a child of God and we see Jesus in them.

We are running Labre completely off of the kindness and generosity of people like you.  We currently have a fundraising goal of $700 dollars by Christmas.  This will fund the entire Spring 2021 semester of our ministry, and all funds raised will go directly to supplying our neighbors with food and other essential material needs; if we exceed our goal, we can expand what we are able to supply.

We ask you to consider donating $10, $25, $50, or whatever you are able to give in order to keep our ministry alive and thriving.  If you do not want to send money, we also give out toiletries and other necessities that people may need while living on the streets. Gift cards are helpful too. If you would like to support the ministry in that way, send us a message through this Go Fund Me page email our campus minister Kyle Baker SJ (You can find his email here: https://www.broncocatholic.org/meetourteam

We appreciate anything you can give to support our neighbors that we share Christ’s love with each week.  Thank you so much for your time, prayers, and support.

In Jesus,

The Labre Street Ministry team.
