The Brave Battle of Jose Borjas
Jose Angel Borjas is 62 years old and lives in San Pedro Sula,
Honduras. He has been diagnosed with cancer of the larynx.
Jose had always been healthy and careful with his health and when
the first symptoms appeared in June of 2019 he thought he had a case of tonsillitis.
A month later he noticed that a small lump had formed on his neck. It grew rapidly and
in a few short weeks he could no longer talk or eat.
A trip to the Hospital was finally scheduled and a biopsy was
performed. The results indicated a malignancy and an operation
removed the tumor. During the operation a biopsy was done on
the thyroid gland which was also found to be cancerous.
The cancer had rapidly spread into the larynx and up into the throat in
an area that was determined by the surgeons to be "non-operable."
A course of chemotherapy was prescribed with an 80% prognosis of
full recovery since the cancer was fairly localized and still 2nd stage.
In Honduras all medical care has to be paid up front by the patient.
Medicines, surgeries, nursing care, etc. all have to be paid by the patient or the family. There is no assistance for those who can not afford the
treatments.
To this date Jose has only received half of his prescribed
chemotherapy because that is all the family has been able to afford.
Jose would like very much to continue his treatments, and with God's help survive the cancer and enjoy his time with his wife Gladys, five
children,and eleven grandchildren.
Jose is a proud man and it is very hard for him to ask for help but his
situation has left him with few options.
God Bless!
