A Mom and Dad's Plea for Help
Our daughter Megan fell on February 14, 2013 and sustained a debilitating brain injury. Her brain injury has caused immense suffering due to the numerous debilitating symptoms such as severe head pain, nausea, vomitting, severe weight loss, vertigo, dizziness, inability to sleep, extreme fatigue, cognitive impairment, weakness, anxiety and most recently severe gastric intestinal impairment. Megan has not been able to attend school since sustaining her brain injury, and for the majority of the time has been bedridden.
Megan continues to deteriorate and all of the resources available here in Canada for treatment and rehabilitation have been exhausted.
Megan has been in and out of Sick Kids hospital since her fall. She recently endured a 5 week admission to Sick Kids Hospital. Sick Kids is hopeful that they can stabilize her condition as Megan needs to go to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota for an intensive treament and rehabilitation program. This admission to the Mayo Clinic will be up to 9 weeks. The Ontario Ministry of Health has agreed to cover the cost of the program, but will not cover the extensive costs of exhorbitant out of country medical insurance, transportation, accomodation, meals and any unforseen medical expenses. This will amount to thousands and thousands of dollars.
The financial stress has compounded our situation. Megan's Mom had to quit her job 2 years ago to provide constant care to our daughter.
Our hopes and prayers are that the Mayo Clinic will be able to help alleviate some of Megan's symptoms and deficits through intensive treatment and rehabillitation.
Megan urgently needs this as her condition is deteriorating rapidly.
Our plea as a Mom and Dad is that you would please find it in your hearts to financially help us so that we can help our daughter, Megan.
