Astrid's Angels

Astrid Müller is a beautiful and adventurous 51 year old woman who single-handedly realized her life long dream of working with horses. Born and educated in Germany and armed with an advanced degree in Sociology, she traveled to South America on vacation and fell in love with the land and it's people. She made the move to the enchanted Pululahua Crater outside the city of Quito Ecuador where she began hosting tourist rides in and around the crater. She now has 32 gorgeous horses and is the owner/operator of The Green Horse Ranch.    http://greenhorseranch.zohosites.com/

ASTRID NEEDS HELP. Plain and simple. I have been riding at her ranch since 1998 and we have become dear friends. I know that  she would never ask for anything. This is a woman who stands 5 ft 8 inches tall on her 120lb frame, wielding a machete at her side and a smile on her face......ready for whatever the mountains and the forest have awaiting her on her next ride into paradise! She is the original "like a girl" poster girl!!!!! She can do anything from shoeing horses to catching a runaway bull to blazing new trails through the rough Andes mountains. She has proudly shared her ranch, her horses, her knowledge of the country and its environs with thousands of tourists and enthusiasts from around the world. Her daughter, now 19 and in college, grew up on the ranch with the horses as her "siblings" and playmates!( Astrid is a single mom)  The ranch and Astrid's horses are her passion. She loves her horses like "children" and has a deep connection with these beautiful creatures and fears for their safety at this point.
On December 28th ASTRID SUFFERED A SUDDEN CARDIAC ARREST. Her heart stopped, she was resuscitated, her lungs collapsed and she was in a coma for a week. She woke up in a new year and no recollection of her ordeal. She was told she has a mass which must be removed and biopsied when she is strong enough to withstand the operation. The surgery is scheduled for mid March. In the mean time, she has trusted volunteers TEMPORARILY caring for her horses.

While Astrid has been somewhat successful in her tourist business she must now sell the ranch in order to pay the bills above and beyond what her limited insurance in Ecuador will pay for her medical costs. Her dream, her beautiful horses with futures unknown , and the worry of open heart surgery is what she is facing now. It would be difficult to sell the ranch intact at such short notice, so the horses would be sold one by one. Who knows what fate would await these beautiful well cared for creatures in a third world country where horses are beasts of burden ..or worse.

I am very optimistic that Astrid will recover and will eventually return to her beloved ranch. How sad it would be to have no horses or home to return to once she has gone through her necessary treatment. This could be any one of us. Imagine being strong , healthy and happy one day and then in the blink of an eye being in Astrid's situation the very next. Please consider being one of Astrid's Angels by making any small donation to help with the costs of her upcoming surgery and for the care and maintenance of Astrid's horses so that she can safely proceed with her surgery in March and return to her HOME. Any donation, big or small, would be graciously accepted. Thank you dear friends and God bless.....
