If you could help a rape victim would you? Would you help someone get back to enjoying playing catch with their child at a park? If you could help stop someone from killing themselves? Would you really? If you could save someone from becoming a victim of a drug overdose would you? If you could help someone from becoming an alcoholic would you? If you could calm someone who deals with flashbacks would you? If you could help someone save their marriage would you?
Each of those are a problem for hundreds of Military Veterans. PTSD and TBI comes from many sources for our veterans. Men and women both are sexually assaulted while on active duty and there's nothing they can do to stop it. These victims are suffering PTSD now that they are home. Hundreds of veterans are suffering from PTSD and TBI from being in combat. Could you imagine seeing your best friend get blown into pieces? That's a vision many of our veterans can't get out of their heads.
Our mission at K9 Karma is to train dogs to improve the lives of our veterans that are suffering from PTSD and TBI. It’s our goal to promote wellness to help a veteran choose life over suicide. So many veterans are suffering from PTSD and TBI that keep them from living a normal lifestyle after combat and any unwanted sexual activity.
Our unique program is a second chance to a brighter future for not only the veterans but their families too. K9 Karma wants to help rebuild life skills that are lost when our veterans return home. A service dog will help them in dealing with anxiety, depression, and most importantly, help them in building a better relationship with their families.
Each person will learn the success of conditioning and positive reinforcement to shape their dog's training and behavior. By learning to manage their dog's behavior, they in turn learn the ultimate goal: to manage their own.
We are able to use rescue dogs to place with a veteran in need. By using a rescue dog they too get a second chance at life. They will be trained, cared for appropriately and lovingly, and adopted into a life-long home, which they deserve.
K9 Karma has 2 program components which we are seeking funding for:
1) Service Dog Training - for veterans suffering from PTSD andTBI. We are currently training service dog #1, but due to lack of funding, we are doing this out of our pockets because we believe in, “LEAVE NO MAN BEHIND”.
2) Local Veterinarian Assistance – this is going to allow us to provide a spayed/neutered dog with full vaccinations to our veterans.
We value our veterans and believe they can become productive members of their community with the right help. Your support allows us to provide innovative, hands-on alternative treatment to our veterans by giving them the opportunity for this, "Second Chance for a Brighter Future" program.
Our ability to carry out our mission rests largely on the relationship we develop with you. By inviting you to partner with us in this endeavor, we collectively engage in improving the quality of life, for our veterans and the dogs in our care. We can strive towards a "life Worth Living" for both the veteran and dog. It’s truly a WIN-WIN situation for all.
