My Battle Buddy

It seems like yesterday, I was barely 19 years old when I walked into the barracks in Korea, my 1st time away from home and all I could think was...I don't even know where Korea is on the map.  That day I met a soldier from my hometown and she instantly took me under her wing and became my battle buddy.  30 years later when she told me she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, I responded, then we will be battle buddies again and fight this together!  She is currently in the medical field, a former EMT a single parent and she is taking care of her mother.  While going to her treatments she continued to work no matter how she felt.  When I first asked her if I could set this up for her she said "I don't know, let me think about it."  Since then her situation has not gotten better and she no longer has leave.  As her battle buddy I have taken off from work (along with her family and friends) to help with transportation to her appointments because she no longer has a car.  It amazes me how she remains that strong person I have always known.  I have prayed on it and in my heart as her Battle Buddy I have decided to do this for her.  I don't want her to have to worry about going to work because she doesn't have leave when she should be home taking care of herself.
