KZN Relief - KwaZulu Natal - KZN Floods
Donation protected
In light of the devastating April & May 2022 KZN flooding which claimed the lives of more than 450 people and has left more than 40,000 displaced, I have set up KZN Relief platform has been set up to raise much-needed funds to have a tangible impact on the lives of the most vulnerable across Ethekwini Durban municipality and neighbouring affected areas.
I work closely with a strong network of individuals, churches, mosques, charities, search & rescue/recovery groups, suppliers, the Ethekwini municipality and other organisations on the ground, working around the clock. With your help, food, warm clothing, bedding and other essential supplies can ease the suffering of many . I hope that those of us abroad can restore dignity by helping these communities get back on their feet and rebuild their homes and livelihoods. As this initial phase of disaster recovery is being met, I will look at education (mainstream and community), training courses, entrepreneurship, and employment opportunities for the longer term as it is imperative that we help to educate, empower and inspire people to rise above their current circumstances so they can be more self sufficient.
What can your donation do?
- R80.00 (about £4.00) can buy a blanket
- R100.00 (about £5.00) can provide a family with a hygiene pack
- R110.00 (about £5.50) can buy a single mattress
- R100.00 (about £5.00) - R200.00 (about £10.00) can buy a basic food parcel - either fruit & veg, or cupboard staples to help sustain a family for a week.
- R500.00 (about £25.00) can help provide fuel for one of the many angels on the ground using their own vehicles to deliver supplies to the most vulnerable.
- R2,500.00 (about £125.00) - R4.000.00 (about £200.00) can provide supplies to help a family fix or rebuild their homes in the informal settlement areas.
I will be adding more information and pricing on what the needs are. Many communities do not have registered organisations specifically covering those areas - with many organisations and individuals trying to reach people in outlying areas which receive little to no support.
Full accountability and transparency underpin how I operate. If you wish your funds to be used towards a specific area or cause (such as animals, elderly, food, education, etc.), please post a comment stating this when you make your donation or message me privately. We will provide constant updates and feedback on various projects through our partnerships across the region. I aim to ensure due diligence is undertaken on all levels of support provided through funds raised as we value the trust you place in us with your kind donations.
Thank you for investing in changing lives across KwaZulu Natal.

About the organiser:
Hi, my name is Hayley Reichert. I am a London-based South African, originally from Upper Highway, Durban and a member of Women of Valour. For the past decade I have been heavily involved with the global South African network through social, charity, political and business activities including overseas voting for SA National Elections in 2014, often acting as a point of contact on various Home Affairs related matters for South Africans abroad including emergency travel and loss of citizenship. I was a co-founder of a project that helped 22,000 South Africans to be repatriated and a further 20,000 to be expatriated during 2020 when SA airspace was closed and during subsequent lockdowns. In February - April 2022 I assisted with the evacuation of South Africans and their relatives from Ukraine.
