Kyra's outdoor adventure

Kyra was diagnosed at six months of age with a rare form of congenital muscular dystrophy called LAMA-2 CMD. Although she is able to sit up by herself, her head control is very limited. She has never walked.

At the age of three, she was driving her first wheelchair. She needs assistance in all of her daily living activities. She had rods place in her back due to scoliosis, and hip reconstruction surgery to improve her quality of life. Only twelve years old, she has had sixteen surgeries.

Kyra enjoys adventures and being in nature. Her family is very active, but there are few trails accessible to Kyra. Hikes tend to be short, since Kyra’s wheelchair can only handle smooth terrain. Kyra lights up when she is able to reach a look out over the city or across a canyon. Because of her wheelchair’s limitations, Kyra and her family are unable to enjoy Colorado to its fullest, and often have to miss out on family adventures outdoors.

The Trailrider Black Diamond Bike-On is specifically designed for steep and rugged terrain. It would allow Kyra and her family full access to all outdoor trails. The cost of the Trailrider is $6,900, none of which is covered by Medicaid. Let’s help make this dream come true for Kyra and her family!
