Kyler Kirby

Kyler Kirby, son of Steve Kirby and Kacy Williams-Kirby, has been in the PICU unit at St Francis Children's hospital since right after Christmas. He has undergone several surgeries and will be facing another surgery in the future. Kyler has had a shunt since birth. The shunt drains from the brain into his stomach. On December 14th, Kyler was taken to the ER with stomach issues. They assumed it was his shunt malfunctioning. The doctors ran CTs of the stomach and ran future test but found nothing wrong. He was released to go home. On December 26th, he was taken back to the ER with stomach issues again. The doc ran a CT of the stomach, said there was nothing wrong. Sent him home and was told to get rest and eat a bland diet. Finally, December 28th, he was taken back to the ER and the doctor caught that Kyler's appendix had burst. They were told that his appendix had burst 2 weeks prior. He underwent emergency surgery to clean up the infection from the burst appendix and to externalize the shunt tube hoping the infection had not made it into the tubing. Unfortunately, it had infiltrated the tube leading to the brain. He has undergone numerous surgeries since then. Steve is a conductor for Union Pacific and Kacy is a Manager for a loan company. Unfortunately, neither one has been able to work as Kyler has to have constant care and is in critical condition. The pressure of the day to day expenses, monthly obligations and medical bills and not being able to work should not be an issue during this time.
