Kyle Shaw Emergency Surgery Expenses
Donation protected
Hi everyone! Those of you that know us know that Kyle has had his LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device) that was implanted due to severe heart failure that started as a common virus, for a few years now. He has also had an active driveline infection for a few years, and been hospitalized for it once before in 2020. He has been on oral antibiotics daily for that since then. Recently this infection got much worse and he ended up having to go back to Piedmont Atlanta. On the way to drive himself there our truck broke down leaving him stranded on the highway until a dear friend picked him up and he took an Uber the rest of the way. He was in the cardiac unit to have a debridement surgery, which was performed on 12/11, to remove all of the infected tissue. The infection was much more extensive than they originally thought and they ended up having to debride the entire abdomen and remove the infected tissue. He was hospitalized on 12/5 and was able to return home on 12/16/23. He has a packed and open surgical site with a wound vac device and dressing covering it to allow the wound to continue to drain post surgery. He also has a PIC line for me to administer IV antibiotics through 3 times daily. This is of course in addition to the existing LVAD which he maintains daily. With it being so close to Christmas we find ourselves in need of a bit of help financially to ensure he has all that he needs and can make it the 100 miles each way to and from Atlanta for his follow ups with his LVAD team there. We are now down to only one vehicle. He is also in a lot more pain than he was when he had his original operation. If you can find it in your heart to donate or share we are extremely grateful!
