Kya: American Ambassador in Israel

Donation protected
My name is Kya Millirons.

I have been selected to be a part of the American Israeli Friendship League. This is an amazing program that sends students from America and Israel to each other's countries for a few weeks.  The goal of the program is to teach one another about the other's culture.  They want to fill the cultural divide that society has created between Israel and America.  In preparation for the trip, the other nine students from my school and I learn about the rich history and culture of Israel and the Jewish people.  We also work on fundraising as a group and individually.  For this trip, I must raise $4,000.  I have raised $1,000 in the last two months by working odd jobs such as babysitting, dog sitting, working at summer camps and cleaning houses.  It would go a long way if you could donate as little as $25.  It would also help if you could spread the word about this incredible opportunity.  This is the most important event that I've been a part of so far in my young life and I can't do it alone.  Not only is this a cultural experience, but I want to take the music from Israel and bring it back to Oklahoma.  This is a chance for me to explore a different kind of music and a different way of life.  This truly is a chance of a lifetime.

How was I chosen for this extraordinary experience?

I was recommended by a teacher along with 50+ other students who attend Harding Fine Arts Academy. Teachers chose students based on materity, academic success and my ability to be able to catch up on school work after missing 3 weeks of school.  If we were interested, we continued onto the next steps until there were only 18 students competing.  We took personality tests, participated in teamwork exercises all while the teachers took notes on how we interacted with others, did interviews with teachers, gave presentations and finally wrote an essay about why I would be a good representative of Harding Fine Arts Academy, Oklahoma, and America.  Ten students were chosen through this process including an additional 2 alternates.

A Little About Me:

I will be a Sophomore at Harding Fine Arts Academy where I am the section leader for the cellos in the orchestra.  I am passionate about music.  I play accoustic/electric guitar, cello, ukulele, piano, banjo, bass, percussion, baby harp and kalimba.  I also write and compose my own music as well as sing.

I have attended Rock Camp for Girls for the last three years where I've learned confidence and a love for performing.

I plan on attending college and ultimately becoming an orchestra teacher.  I've been so inspired by my music teachers over the last few years that I've decided to pursue a career in music education.  I'd also like to minor in religious studies which makes this opportunity even more influential towards my future.

I attended Belle Isle Enterprise Middle School where my love of the cello and orchestra was ignited.  I attended Ridgeview Elementary PreK through 5th grade.
