Ky Peterson's Family Support

Donation protected

Ky Peterson is a black trans man who was sentenced to 20 years for defending himself against his rapist.  You can read more about Ky, his experiences,  and his impact here in The Advocate.

After 9 long years, Ky Peterson is finally coming home in July of 2020.

In a few months, he will be coming home, but he needs a home to come home to.  Ky's mother has faced multiple issues due to a car accident.  She lost her job, her home, and is now disabled. Over last year she has been fighting for disability services while caring for Ky's niece and trying to find a place to live that Ky can go home to.  Due to Ky's release conditions, it is preferred that he stay with family but he cannot return to his hometown. As of now, we have arranged for employment, insurance, medical care, trauma recovery services, and continued education for Ky. All he needs now is a home.

We are raising funds to help his mother move to the area where his resources are located. We have 5 months to make this move happen.  The funds will be used to pay for moving expenses, rent, utility activation, and support for disability services.

Over the last 6 years, Ky has grown a support system that always steps up in times of need.  Our campaigns for Ky have generated over 13,000 signatures on the petition to free Ky, over 5,000 letters to the governor of Georgia, and nearly 1,000 photos for the Free Ky Project, a campaign to raise awareness of sexual assault against trans men.  Additional support campaigns have resulted in gaining access for HRT, binders and gender-affirming clothing for trans men in Ga. prisons. The Ky Peterson Defense Committee,  with the support of Freedom Overground, is thrilled to launch this final campaign for Ky Peterson and his family.

2-21-2020 *UPDATE*  On Feb. 20th, Ky's family took another brutal hit when his youngest brother lost his life in a car accident. While we are still dedicated to raising funds for a new home, we also know that the cost of memorial services and transporting Ky to the services are substantial.  We have changed the name of this campaign but supporting Ky in whatever way that he and his family needs are still our driving mission.  No matter what, Ky will continue to have access to and control over the funds that are donated here.   ~ Ky Peterson Defense Committee
