Greetings, Sunshine Coast citizens and movie lovers everywhere,
We are sad to announce that Sydney Valentine, longtime member of our community and the owner of Sid’s Vids, was diagnosed with cervical cancer back in December.
Unfortunately, due to the type and stage of the cancer, combined with some pre-existing conditions, traditional treatments were unadvisable. Syd is currently undergoing several alternative protocols, some of which are quite expensive.
Syd needs your help. We are setting up a fund-raising campaign. Your contribution will allow Syd to continue to receive treatment after the store has shut down, and potentially travel abroad to access some specialized protocols that have shown very high rates of success.
We have established three ways in which you can lend your support, to enable Syd to close the store and focus on healing:
1) You can help by donating to this GoFundMe for her medical expenses.
2) We have set up a donation box at Sid’s Vids.
3) You can continue to come into the store to rent movies and to purchase your favourite DVDs and Blu Rays.
We will be selling off everything, from films to furnishings, starting Saturday August 5th, and going until August 31st. As each week goes by, we will lower the price of the remaining inventory. Come early for the best selection, come late for the best deals. Visit early and often to maximize your value!
Closing our doors weighs very heavily on our hearts. Being the last video store on the Coast, this will mean the end of an era. I believe this location was the first video store on the Coast decades ago, and it will be the last. With over 25,000 discs, it is one of the largest collections still in circulation.
Among her many qualities, Syd has a thirst for knowledge, an appreciation for a well-turned phrase, and a great sense of humour, all of which she combined to create the vast, irreplaceable library of art, entertainment and knowledge that has kept people returning to Sid’s Vids for almost a decade.
Our wish is to keep this spectacular collection in the community. By coming into the store and buying movies, you will help us spread this collection throughout the Sunshine Coast, and, as well, support Syd and staff throughout this transitionary period.
We thank you all for your past, present, and future support! We have enjoyed our years here, making great friends while sharing our collection with you, hopefully giving you entertaining experiences, inspired conversations, and memories that will last forever.
