My name is Rachel and I am from Barbados. I came to London, Canada to study and complete my degree in Nutrition and Dietetics with future plans to become a registered dietitian with a focus in diabetes education and support. Unfortunately finances have been the hardest hurdle to get over. With only one semester to complete I am one step closer to achieving my dreams and goals.
When I first started attending Brescia University in January 2015, I was nervous but excited to start my new journey. With a student loan under my belt and financial assistance from family I was able to complete my studies for the first two years. I spent my first year at Brescia living in school residence (where I am pictured below). I later moved off of campus to save funds for my studies and school related projects. Determined to help myself, I applied for a part-time on campus job and was granted the opportunity to work in the food & nutrition departmental office as a student office assistant . I later went on to working part-time off campus after this job was completed.
I keep a smile on my face, but sometimes it's really challenging not knowing when or if I will be able to complete my studies, especially when the end is so near. I am requesting a donation of anything that can help to make my dream career a reality. I have to work towards my qualifications in this field of study as I will make a difference someday; especially in Barbados where diabetes is unfortunately a growing issue. My family has supported me to the best of their ability, but to complete my degree we are still falling short of the amount needed to finish. All of my options have been exhausted, and I am asking if there is anything you can spare.
I keep this very close to my chest, and this has been really difficult for me to publicly announce, but I must try. With your help I can pay for my last set of classes needed to complete my degree. If you aren't able to donate at this time, I thank you for taking the time to read my story and I kindly ask if you would share this on my behalf.
