Our historic theater is in need of purchasing a digital movie projector. The movie projector is used to present first run Hollywood features. For the past 10 years our theater has been featuring first run film using the 35mm film format. Beginning this past year the Hollywood studios have been converting to a digital file format for their feature presentation.
As of the first of this year most features are available in a digital file format only.
To present the most recent features released by Hollywood our historic theater will need to acquire the necessary equipment to present the newer digital format. Cost estimates for this equipment is $40,000.
The ongoing support of maintaining our historic theater comes from the admission and concession sales. Our theather is open every weekend to the general public. We are fortunate to have a dedicate audience wishing to attend the movies.
Our theater is the Hayesville Opera House, built in 1886. Located in Hayesville, Ohio the opera house is one of the oldest operating theaters in Ohio. The opera house was the first building in Ashland County to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.
Being open every weekend, the opera house provides an opportunity for families to come together to experience the latest entertainment. We also provide a learning opportunity for the local schools, whose students visit the opera house to learn of its history and also being able to view an educational film. This is somthing unique which many communities can not offer.
