Hi, my name is Kate and I have always been a dog lover. Seven years ago, I found and rescued Roxie, my best friend. We bonded immediately and have been inseparable since, moving across the country and back together. Roxie is a very active dog; She loves going to the dog park, hiking, and busting out the back door at every opportunity to chase the birds and squirrels in the backyard.
Unfortunately, about six months ago, I noticed Roxie limping. Concerned, I immediately took her to the vet, who took X-Rays and said that she may have torn a ligament in her leg. He said it was common in active dogs and recommended that I crate Roxie to see if her leg would heal on its own, in combination with some anti-inflammatory and pain medicine. Though it was hard, I followed the orders of the vet. This helped a little bit, but she soon took a turn for the worst. After a second opinion at a highly recommended animal hospital, I learned Roxie developed arthritis in the bad knee, and overused her good knee, tearing that ACL as well. I was devastated when I found out that the surgery would cost about $7,000. Roxie has not been herself now for several weeks, and I am heartbroken. It is very difficult for her to even get up and down, much less walk around. I can tell she is in pain, but when I give her pain medicine, she feels some temporary relief and becomes more active, doing her more harm than good.
Determined to find a way, I have done a lot of research and found another animal hospital in Louisville that can do the ACL surgery on both knees for half the price! I have some hope now, however, after already spending several hundred dollars on vet bills, I am not in a position to pay for her surgery myself. The vet recommends surgery ASAP. Roxie is in constant pain and it is only getting worse as she is bearing all of her weight on her front legs. So I turn to you, family, friends, and fellow dog lovers for help. Every little bit will help in reaching my goal! Even if you can't personally contribute, time is of the essence so please take a minute and share Roxie's story. Please help me help her.
